The First Days of Spring, A Film By Noah And The Whale

If you weren’t able to make any of the film screenings for Noah and the Whale‘s “The First Days of Spring” (or buy the CD/DVD combo pack), you’re in luck! You can now watch the film, written and directed by Charlie Fink, on vimeo for free!

The film is beautiful, so just sit down and relax for the next 40ish minutes:

The live epicness that is Noah and the Whale and free remixes!

If you’ve seen Noah and the Whale live in the last few months, then your ears have been exposed to some pretty epic sounds. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, here’s a video of the Whale boys performing “Stranger” live in Paris back in September courtesy of LP33.TV. Let it build, folks. Let it build:

Epic, right?! Since I last saw them in October, I’ve been on the hunt for a decent quality live clip of “Give A Little Love” because the way they’ve reworked it literally sent a shiver down my spine. The essence of the song remains the same, but they’ve added this beautiful build up at the end that gets better and better and better with each passing second. You know, I can only do so much with words, so please have a listen: (If you’re impatient or low on time, start at 1:42)

Did you feel that shiver?? Goodness. The audio on this clip is some of the best I’ve found, it’s just too bad the beginning is cut off. So alas, my search continues. If you’ve got a few more minutes to spare / would like to continue being wowed / are not yet convinced you should check out NATW when they play your town, here’s “My Broken Heart”: (I highly recommend all 8 minutes and 15 seconds, but if you simply can’t watch it all then skip somewhere near 6:00 but know you’re missing out on SO MUCH GREATNESS)

Yep, they’ve taken one of the mellower tracks from The First Days of Spring and transformed it into this SUPER-EPIC-JAM-SESSION gig closer. Incredible. They certainly know how to leave a crowd wanting more.

And finally, some free remixes of their latest single “Love on an Orchestra” courtesy of the band and Y&LC:

Personally, I’m really digging the Max Tundra remix. It may or may not have a lot to do with the Super Mario-esque sounds I hear thrown in there.

Noah and the Whale’s Halloween bash

I know I’ve already got some sweet Halloween plans with Peggy Sue, but I can’t help feel a bit jealous of the good times this poster promises. Toronto folks, go to this or else*.

*I don’t know what exactly I’m threatening you with, maybe “or else you’ll be missing out big time”?

Noah and the Whale return to the US this October

As previously mentioned, Noah and the Whale’s latest album/film The First Days of Spring will get its official U.S. release on October 6th thanks to Cherrytree/Interscope. After a quick jaunt around the UK, the band will head over to our side of the Atlantic for a handful of dates in support of the album/film:

Oct 20 Los Angeles, CA @ The Roxy Theatre
Oct 22 San Francisco, CA @ Swedish American Hall
Oct 24 Seattle, WA @ Crocodile Cafe
Oct 25 Portland, OR @ Doug Fir Lounge
Oct 29 Chicago, IL @ Lakeshore Theater
Oct 30 Pontiac, MI @ The Crofoot’s Pike Room
Oct 31 Toronto, Ontario @ The Horseshoe Tavern

NYC shows coming soon…

While Lakeshore Theater isn’t exactly one of my favorite places for live music (comedy shows, on the other hand, are always a good time there), NATWs younger fans will once again enjoy a good show since it’s there won’t be a buzz-killing 21+ on tickes. So get them now.

You can listen to The First Days of Spring in its entirety on Noah and the Whale’s official myspace and check for additional dates on the tour: http://www.myspace.com/noahandthewhale

Summer, where art thou? pt. 4

#4 Noah and the Whale – “5 Years Time”

After its official release last year, Noah and the Whale’s “5 Years Time” was deemed “song of the summer” by almost every blogger, magazine editor, and festival go-er with the ability to hear. Such a title came with good reason, it’s simply the kind of song that radiates sunshine and rainbows and bunnies and unicorns and pretty much every other symbolic figure of happiness. It really is impossible to not love this song or the video.

So for this installment of “My Favorite Summer Songs” or whatever it is I’m calling this seven day song giveaway (rhyme!), I give you one of my favorite versions of “5 Years Time” from a radio session. It’s slowed down a bit and features horns, tambourine, and an added verse of The Drifters‘ “Sweets for my Sweet”. It’s good times.
