AND SO IT BEGINS….SXSW 2011
If you’ve got frequent flyer miles saved up and about $1000 disposable cash, you a) are one lucky son of a gun and b) should start thinking about buying your badge for SXSW 2011. The music festival will take place March 16-20 and the first round of bands have already been announced, check out the full list or some highlights below:
Bombay Bicycle Club
Frankie and the Heartstrings
Marcus Foster
Veronica Falls
Yuck
I’m sure that a whole slew of other bands I would really, really love to see will get added soon enough, that’s how it always goes. However, I’m realizing that with every passing year I care less and less about not being able to go to SXSW. Not exactly the setting I’d love to see these bands in, you know? However, if anyone’s got an extra pass to the Interactive conference, I would love you forever if you hooked a sister up!
PEGGY SUE TONIGHT @ PARK WEST!!!

The always amazing Peggy Sue are back in Chicago TONIGHT supporting Kate Nash. If you’re free and have 20 bucks to spare, YOU SHOULD GO SEE THEM because they’re truly one of the most fantastic & fascinating live bands. And no one said you have to stick around for Nash.
It kills me that I can’t be there tonight considering it’s probably the last time they’ll be in town before their next album, but a girl’s gotta work.

CUT COPY REVEAL COVER ART, HEADS EXPLODE.
Explode from pure anticipation from the EPIC EPICNESS that the band’s third LP will no doubt bring.
CUT COPY. ZONOSCOPE. FEBRUARY 8th 2011.

The cover art is the work of late Japanese photo montage artist Tsunehisa Kimura and totally reminds me of that scene in “The Abyss” with the crazy tidal wave. As if the album title and art weren’t enough to build some crazy intrigue and anticipation in us fans, the band have also released the second installment of the Krozm documentary about the making of Zonoscope. As always, you can watch below. Brace yourself for some intense Dan-screaming-into-guitar-pickup-and-getting-amazing-feedback moments.
REGINA SPEKTOR ‘LIVE IN LONDON’ DVD SCREENINGS
On November 22nd, Regina Spektor is set to release her first ever concert film and recording, Live in London, on CD, DVD, Blu-ray, vinyl, and digital formats. Though filmed primarily at London’s Hammersmith Apollo Theatre, the film will include concert footage spanning Spektor’s 2009 winter UK tour in support of Far.
Live in London is dedicated to Daniel Cho, Regina’s cellist who passed away while on tour this summer. For a glimpse of the DVD, check out ‘Folding Chair’ below!!
The live band really did at that extra oomph to her songs, didn’t they? So good! Anyway, you can take a gander at the 23-song tracklisting and pre-order this bad boy (including limited edition bundles!!) over on Regina’s official webstore.
As a special bonus treat, there will be screenings of the film in select cities November 19th through November 25th!! Chicagoans, you can head over to Lincoln Hall at 9pm on November 22nd for a free viewing! For screenings in other towns, check out CINEMA PURGATORIO.
MYSTERY JETS CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN
Yesterday, I ever-so-subtlety mentioned that Mystery Jets will be returning to Chicago in January as part of the Tomorrow Never Knows music festival. But before we get to enjoy the sights and sounds of Serotonin, the band will play a special gig on November 16th benefiting the Variety Club Children’s Charity, an organization that has been helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people for more than sixty years.
The show will take place at London’s Blues Kitchen and will feature an acoustic (!!) set from Mystery Jets with support from Rodeo Massacre. The Maccabees’ Orlando Weeks and Hits Don’t Hurt will also be on site spinning some tunes.
SOUNDS LIKE AN AMAZING TIME, RIGHT?! Well, loads of people thought so too and the show is already sold out. But don’t be too sad, it’s sold out FOR A GREAT CAUSE!
In the meantime, you can catch Mystery Jets as they finish up their current tour around the UK:
Nov 3 Academy 2 Dublin – Dublin
Nov 5 HMV Institute – Birmingham
Nov 6 Anson Rooms – Bristol
Nov 7 The Glee Club – Cardiff
Nov 9 Trent Uni – Nottingham
Nov 10 Brighton Concorde – Brighton
