Generationals played a fun-filled set comprised mostly of material from their debut Con Law (which you might remember I raved about a while ago?), but sprinkled in a couple new tunes here and there. They’re just as much fun live as they are on record and you really can’t help but have a huge smile on your face the whole time they’re playing. It had been quite a while since I’d seen The Spinto Band live, but as soon as they took the stage and that drum beat intro to “Brown Boxes” started it felt like old times. Though they’ve gone and traded in their signature kazoos for a clarinet, the spaztic dance moves, stellar harmonizing, and cheesy jokes we all know and love were present and in full force. Some things just never change. Thank goodness.

Don’t forget, you can still download some Spinto songs on my covers post. Highly recommend gangsta-fied “Oh Mandy,” which I knew they wouldn’t play live but my little heart couldn’t help but hope.

Have a listen: Generationals

This past week all around the world (read: Chicago), universities (read: Loyola) opened their doors and welcomed a new slew of doe-eyed freshmen naive enough to believe their majors (read: Philosophy with a minor in Women’s Studies) were a wise choice considering today’s economy (read: you’re more screwed than I am).

For me, this past week meant waking up early (read: the ass crack of dawn) for 8am classes, one too many rounds of let’s-get-to-know-each-other games (read: making up “interesting” facts about myself), and becoming acclimated with my new Edgewater (read: Assault Ave.) surroundings.

Luckily through all the crazy first-days-of-class commotion, I had Agamemnon (read: my trusty Zune) to keep me sane with bitchin’ tunes. Amongst these bitchin’ tunes were the Generationals (read: remember The Eames Era?) and their latest album (read: first and only so far) Con Law. Although I’ve been listening to the album pretty heavily since it’s release in July, Con Law‘s bubbly, sunshine sounds were perfect for the countless walks and bus rides to and from class this last week. It’s hard not being in a good mood while listening to Generationals, even when it’s 8am and you’d rather be sleeping than walking to class before the sun’s even up. They’re just so happy (read: not in an annoying Matt & Kim kind of way).
