“there’s no such thing as love”
A new trailer for 500 Days of Summer, starring little Tommy Solomon Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. Not only does the new trailer offer a better understanding of the film’s story and more Gubler, but it features some good ol’ Mystery Jets tune-age. Check ittt:
The film premiered at Sundance this year to very positive reviews. Some have already likened 500 Days to 2004′s Garden State, but let’s remember that some people can be cruel.
500 Days of Summer will be out on limited release July 17th. Keep an eye out.
The Water (2009)
The directorial debut of Broken Social Scene‘s Kevin Drew, The Water is a short film starring Cillian Murphy, Leslie Feist (yep, that Feist), and David Fox. Not particularly a fan of Broken Social Scene or Feist, it was Cillian Murphy’s involvement with the film that caught my attention.
The Water feels almost as if you’re watching someone else’s weird dream about a depressing love story they once read. The scenic shots of wintry landscapes and the emotion Murphy and Fox are able to convey without saying a word pull you in and make you wonder where the story is going. With only a fifteen minute runtime, you’re left wanting more. That’s always the downside to short films, yet also part of their brilliance, how so much can be said in so little time.
Pitchfork is screening the film for one week starting today, April 10. I tried to embed it, but failed.
Just a warning: If you’re not a fan of slow-moving films with little dialogue, this may not be the movie for you. But it’s only 15 minutes, isn’t it worth a shot? Plus, Cillian Murphy! Read an interview Murphy had with IFC about The Water right here.
