BIRTHDAY SONGS FOR BABY JESUS 2010
There are two things I don’t like about December: hearing holiday music on loop EVERYWHERE YOU GO starting the day after Thanksgiving AND the 24-hour A Christmas Story marathon on Christmas day.
But there is one thing I absolutely love about this time of year: HOLIDAY COVER SONGS! Here are five favorites from this year:
SUMMER CAMP – “Christmas Wrapping” (The Waitresses cover)

SHE & HIM (WITH CONAN!) – “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”
THE FUTUREHEADS – “Christmas Was Better In the 80s”

THE MACCABEES – “Walking in the Air” (from The Snowman)
BUY ON ITUNES
COCONUT RECORDS – “It’s Christmas”

The Morning Benders + ‘The Jungle Book’
While I’ve heard a lot about The Morning Benders, their music has never really made me feel anything. However, I’m kind of in love with their recent cover of the Disney classic “I Wanna Be Like You” from the animated film The Jungle Book.

I can’t stop listening. They’ve made the song uniquely theirs while keeping all the fun of the original. (Something others have tried and failed to do in the past. Can you say ‘Smashmouth’?)
And for kicks, the original:
Now if only someone awesome would cover Mulan’s “I’ll Make a Man Out of You.”
Jamie T makes me dislike Beyonce a little bit less
Thanks to the musaq station at work that constantly plays the same ten songs on loop, I can’t listen to more than three seconds of Beyonce’s “If I Were a Boy” without wanting to drive a sharp object into my ears. Thanks to Jamie T, my reaction is now a lot less violent:
You should buy his new album Kings & Queens. Seriously.
