Video: Late of the Pier “Best in the Class”

Late of the Pier are back, baby. The boys are set to release the double A-side single “Best in The Class” on limited edition vinyl and digital download on March 1st, a little taster before the release of their second album.

One of my favorite LOTP songs ever, excited much?!

Mumford & Sons make their US television debut

On Letterman, of all places. He’s been getting all these gigs lately, hasn’t he? Anyway, watch Mumford & Sons blow minds with “Little Lion Man” and Letterman try to be funny (but really just coming off awkward because that’s what he’s good at) and then buy their album Sigh No More because it was released here on Tuesday:

The Mumford men have a UK tour coming up and normally I would be all “Go check them out because they’re an incredible live band!” but it’s compltely SOLD OUT so, uh, maybe next time?

Summer, where art thou? pt. 4

#4 Noah and the Whale – “5 Years Time”

After its official release last year, Noah and the Whale’s “5 Years Time” was deemed “song of the summer” by almost every blogger, magazine editor, and festival go-er with the ability to hear. Such a title came with good reason, it’s simply the kind of song that radiates sunshine and rainbows and bunnies and unicorns and pretty much every other symbolic figure of happiness. It really is impossible to not love this song or the video.

So for this installment of “My Favorite Summer Songs” or whatever it is I’m calling this seven day song giveaway (rhyme!), I give you one of my favorite versions of “5 Years Time” from a radio session. It’s slowed down a bit and features horns, tambourine, and an added verse of The Drifters‘ “Sweets for my Sweet”. It’s good times.

Spektor in SPIN

Firstly, Regina Spektor’s new album Far debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s Hot 200 chart. EPIC WIN.

Secondly, Regina is featured in the latest issue of SPIN, which you can read online for free. Score!

“Aaaaaaaaaaaahh! Can we change the channel?” Regina Spektor pleads, shielding her eyes from a fight scene unfolding on the motor-home TV. “This is too scary for me.” The driver, clearly miffed at the prospect of not finishing his bootleg copy of Watchmen, eyes the singer — her cherry-red lipsticked mouth cast in a girlish pout — and finally obliges, switching to…Jurassic Park.

“Are you kidding?” Spektor, 29, laughs, as a velociraptor chases Jeff Goldblum across the screen. “I’m such a sissy. I can’t even handle Animal Planet.” She pauses, shaking her head. “The world is too much.” >>>>>>>You can read the rest of the article online here, just jump to page 64.

Thirdly, word on the street is Regina closed her T in the Park set this weekend with “Love, You’re a Whore”. Good to know she’s still playing that tune live, especially with that US tour right around the corner!

Jul 28 El Rey Theatre – Los Angeles, CA
Sep 11 Myth – St. Paul, MN
Sep 12 Chicago Theatre – Chicago, IL
Sep 15 Michigan Theater – Ann Arbor, MI
Sep 16 Sound Academy – Toronto, Ontario
Sep 17 Metropolis – Montreal, Quebec
Sep 21 House of Blues – Boston, MA
Sep 22 Orpheum Theatre – Boston, MA
Sep 24 Electric Factory – Philadelphia, PA

Hard to imagine that only four years ago she was headlining shows at Martyr’s and Schubas.

Download: Love You’re a Whore (live at Bonnaroo 2007) aka one of my favorite live versions of this song
