JOHNNY FLYNN! TONIGHT! CHICAGO!
I don’t mean for this to sound like a threat, but if you know what’s good for you then you’ll probably head down to Mayne Stage tonight to catch Johnny Flynn. Why? Because it’s going to be amazing. TRUST ME.
Word on the street is that he’ll be performing a solo set, all in support of his latest album Been Listening, officially released in the US last month via Thirty Tigers.
Though this won’t be my first time seeing Flynn live, it will mark my first visit to Mayne Stage. This relatively new Rogers Park venue has undergone quite a few changes over its lifetime, probably why I was oblivious to its existence even though I lived five minutes away for almost four years. Expect a review of the show in the following days!
If you had planned to see him back in October, hopefully you can still make it out to this rescheduled date! Tickets: $15. Doors: 7pm, show starts at 8pm. Owen supporting.
Let’s take a moment to relive the magic of two years ago, shall we?
PEGGY SUE TONIGHT @ PARK WEST!!!

The always amazing Peggy Sue are back in Chicago TONIGHT supporting Kate Nash. If you’re free and have 20 bucks to spare, YOU SHOULD GO SEE THEM because they’re truly one of the most fantastic & fascinating live bands. And no one said you have to stick around for Nash.
It kills me that I can’t be there tonight considering it’s probably the last time they’ll be in town before their next album, but a girl’s gotta work.

MYSTERY JETS CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN
Yesterday, I ever-so-subtlety mentioned that Mystery Jets will be returning to Chicago in January as part of the Tomorrow Never Knows music festival. But before we get to enjoy the sights and sounds of Serotonin, the band will play a special gig on November 16th benefiting the Variety Club Children’s Charity, an organization that has been helping sick, disabled and disadvantaged children and young people for more than sixty years.
The show will take place at London’s Blues Kitchen and will feature an acoustic (!!) set from Mystery Jets with support from Rodeo Massacre. The Maccabees’ Orlando Weeks and Hits Don’t Hurt will also be on site spinning some tunes.
SOUNDS LIKE AN AMAZING TIME, RIGHT?! Well, loads of people thought so too and the show is already sold out. But don’t be too sad, it’s sold out FOR A GREAT CAUSE!
In the meantime, you can catch Mystery Jets as they finish up their current tour around the UK:
Nov 3 Academy 2 Dublin – Dublin
Nov 5 HMV Institute – Birmingham
Nov 6 Anson Rooms – Bristol
Nov 7 The Glee Club – Cardiff
Nov 9 Trent Uni – Nottingham
Nov 10 Brighton Concorde – Brighton
Nov 11 The Roundhouse – London
Nov 16 Blues Kitchen – London
TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS 2011: EPIC TIMES AHEAD
Every year, hundreds of bands trek from all over the world to play SXSW and CMJ in hopes of becoming the latest and greatest blog darling. And every year, the person currently typing these words on her bruised and battered sony vaio** complains about the lack of love the Midwest receives in terms of touring bands and festivals*.
But for the last five years, Schubas (and now sister venue Lincoln Hall too!) have presented TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS, a winter music festival showcasing some of the best up-and-coming bands from around the world. This year, one particular blogger hit bank with the lineup. Many have been using the old phrase “happy as a clam” to describe her feelings about TNK 2011.
TNK 2011 will take place Wednesday January 12th through January 16th at Schubas and Lincoln Hall. For the first time ever, the festival has also partnered with the Metro to bring Chicago even more good times! Initial lineup below!

Last month, Peggy Sue came through Chicago for the third time and delivered a near flawless 45-minute set. Watch the band perform new song “Hold You Down” at Schubas:
While on the road in North America, Katy, Rosa, and Olly recorded a video in each city they visited. Check out some of my favorites below and watch all 12 videos on Peggy Sue’s official Youtube channel!!
