RIP Doug Fieger
Doug Fieger, lead singer/guitarist of The Knack, passed away due to cancer. Let’s take a few minutes to dance around to the brilliance that is “My Sharona”:
GUITAR SOLO. SO GREAT.
I fall in love with songs, not people.
It’s true. Some people think it’s sad, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

Some love songs to swoon for on this day dedicated to love:
Cut Copy – Autobahn Music Box (XFM Session) – I watch the sun go down and up again and think of you
Alan Pownall – Up and Away - Whatever I do, I’ll always find my way back to you
The Features – The Idea of Growing Old – We can play charades when there is nothing to say
Regina Spektor – Bartender (XFM Session) – Love is so fickle, it starts with a flood and ends with a trickle
We Are Scientists – Be My Baby (cover/Oui FM Session) – For every kiss you give me, I’ll give you three
Lulu & the Lampshades – Cherry Coke - Have a cup of tea and marry me
Jeremy Warmsley – I Keep the City Burning – I stop the rain from falling, I keep the city burning for you
The Maccabees – About Your Dress (acoustic) – You stood out like a sore thumb, the most beautiful sore thumb I’d ever seen
Bonus tunes sans italicized lyrics:
The Rakes – The World Was a Mess But His Hair Was Perfect
One of the most genius/beautiful song titles ever. In my opinion, at least. Plus it’s a great song.
Modern English – I Melt With You
A classic. We can listen and imagine that sweet sequence in Valley Girl. Or think of people who claim Modern English is one of their favorite bands and we can laugh because who in the world calls Modern English one of their favorite bands? It’s like if I said Kajagoogoo was one of my favorite bands because I really like that ONE song.
Have a listen: Golden Ages
It’s no secret I like to have electro-inspired, classic video game sounding noises floating through my eardrums. But more often than not, I find myself annoyed and put off by the slew of “electronic” artists bombarding the music world with their faux-arty haircuts and unoriginality. Needless to say, it’s always a nice surprise when I hear something that actually makes me feel good, not annoyed. Case in point: Golden Ages.
The musical project of a nameless man in Philadelphia, Golden Ages creates melodious electro-pop jams and infuses them with soul. The end result? Sounds that move slowly through your ear canal, find their way into your veins, and send your heart a-flutter. It’s a good feeling, let me tell ya.

The Bundles album + UK dates
Do you love Jeffrey Lewis? Do you love his brother Jack? How about Kimya Dawson? Anders Griffen? Karl Blau? Well, then The Bundles might be the band for you.

They’ve all worked together at some point, even recording some demos together almost ten years ago. Now, they have decided it’s time to make something of those demos and you can buy their album from K Records. You’ll notice that some songs (“Shamrock Glamrock”/”Ishalicious”) managed to find their way onto individual setlists in the last decade.
They’ve already got some shows around the UK (of course) scheduled for May:
May 15 – Brudenell Social Club – Leeds, ENGLAND
May 16 – ABC2 – Glasgow, SCOTLAND
May 17 – The Deaf Institute – Manchester, ENGLAND
May 18 – Trinity Arts Center – Bristol, ENGLAND
May 19 – Union Chapel – London, ENGLAND
May 20 – Komedia – Brighton, ENGLAND
Regina Spektor performs on Late Night
Regina paid a visit to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon this week in support of her album and the Tibet House US Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall on February 26th. Watch her perform “Machine” below:
Oh hey Dawson, you social awk. Compared to her performances on the other late night shows, Spektor seems the least nervous here and, as per usual, sounds great. If only The Roots had gotten in on the action, how sweet would that have been?
